Mayor Eric Adams

Mayor Eric Adams vetoed the City Council’s rejection of Bally’s proposed $4 billion casino in the Bronx, aiming to keep the project in contention for one of three downstate casino licenses. The plan requires zoning changes to redevelop part of the Bally’s Golf Links, including demapping city parkland. Adams argued the Council’s vote unfairly excluded the Bronx and gave an edge to other boroughs. The veto returns the matter to the Council, which would need a two-thirds vote to override. The rezoning must pass before September 30 to remain eligible for state consideration.
