Stony Brook University

Stony Brook University

A new $20 million semiconductor research and development center is set to be constructed on the Stony Brook University campus in Suffolk County, Long Island. The project is being developed in collaboration between Stony Brook University and onsemi, the largest U.S.-based silicon carbide power semiconductor manufacturer. Supported by a public-private partnership, funding comprises an $8 million operational investment from onsemi and a $2 million grant from Empire State Development, with Stony Brook contributing $10 million toward renovations and equipment. The facility will be housed on the university’s West Campus Engineering Quad and is expected to be operational by early 2027.
